Melissa Cook – Senior Speech Language Pathologist & Allied Health Manager

Melissa has broad experience working in private practice, education, and community settings. She has worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including children with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and children who have experienced complex trauma. Melissa takes a strengths-based and relationship-focused approach and partners with the important people in a child’s life in order to develop personalised goals and therapy plans.

As the Allied Health Coordinator of the Townsville clinic, Melissa supports the skilled multidisciplinary team to provide collaborative and evidence-based services in order to help children and young people achieve their goals. In her free time, she enjoys exploring North Queensland and visiting family and friends in Brisbane.

Stephanie Lawton – Clinical Psychologist & Allied Health Manager
Stephanie Lawton – Clinical Psychologist & Allied Health Manager

Stephanie is a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience in assessments and child and infant mental health, with a particular interest in anxiety. Her wealth of experience enables her to provide comprehensive assessments and targeted interventions. Her roles have included positions in community settings, private practice, and hospitals. Her approach is marked by a commitment to evidence-based practice and a strong belief in a compassionate and collaborative approach. She particularly enjoys developing partnerships with parents, recognising the significance of involving them in the therapeutic process. As an Allied Health Manager, Stephanie guides a highly skilled team of multidisciplinary practitioners in supporting children and young people achieve their goals. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys spending quality time with her family, exploring the city, and reading a good book.

Emily is a Senior Speech Pathologist who has experience working across a range of services including education, private practice and community health. She works within the Bright Door clinics at Toowong and Fig Tree Pocket. Emily aims to use client-centred therapy to empower clients and their families to achieve functional outcomes in their daily lives. She has a particular interest in early intervention, literacy and speech sound disorders. Outside of work Emily enjoys spending time with her family and friends, checking out new cafés or attending a live music or sports event.

Georgia Bellas – Senior Occupational Therapist
Georgia Bellas – Senior Occupational Therapist

Georgia is a Senior Occupational Therapist who has experience working across a myriad of services including non-for-profit organisations, education, private practice and early intervention services. She has extensive experience working with children and their families to achieve functional outcomes in meaningful occupations across their environments. Georgia aims to empower and support children and their families to thrive through connection, partnership and play.

Georgia is also the Team Leader of Language Disorder Australia’s Bright Door clinics. In this role, Georgia works closely with the Allied Health Coordinators to support the Occupational Therapists provide a quality, evidence-based service that results in positive outcomes for clients and their families.

Outside of work Georgia enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, going to the beach, Pilates and coffee!

Cassandra Bolt – Senior Speech Pathologist

Cassandra is a qualified speech pathologist with extensive experience working in the disability sector. Cassandra has worked with clients across the lifespan but has a keen interest in supporting children and young adults with a disability who have complex communication needs. Cassandra also has experience and enjoys supporting the development of early language and play skills of young children. Cassandra strives to help clients achieve their desired outcomes and advocates for all to have access to a functional communication system.
Cassandra also has a Bachelor of Music and loves to spend her spare time cooking, camping with her family or walking her dog, Oscar.

Vanessa Jouet – Senior Music Therapist
Vanessa Jouet – Senior Music Therapist

Vanessa is Registered and Neurologic Music Therapist who has also completed advanced fellowship training in Neurologic Music Therapy, as well as being an assistant faculty member for the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Vanessa specialises in working with children and adolescents with language disorders and ASD. She also has experience in a variety of areas including paediatrics at the children’s hospital, adults with disabilities, brain injury rehabilitation and early intervention. Vanessa’s primary role is working within a multidisciplinary team at Mancel College to assist students in developing skills in school readiness and regulation. Within the Bright Door clinic, Vanessa works with clients and their families to achieve their individual goals in a range of areas including regulation, sensory integration, movement, social-emotional, cognitive and language skills. When not at work, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her family, having coffee with friends and playing piano.

Jessica Welsby – Senior Occupational Therapist

Jessica is a qualified occupational therapist with extensive clinical experience working across a range of public and private settings. She is passionate about working closely with children and their families to develop and support function and independence. Jessica has a strong interest in the areas of toileting, play, emotional regulation, and sensory processing. She often boasts of her knowledge of Bluey, Paw Patrol, Thomas the Tank Engine and Minecraft. Jessica strives to make therapy motivating and fun for each child, often reflecting on the joy of seeing children actively participate in goal-specific therapy interventions without even realising it. Jessica is a proud mother of two primary school-aged children, which she feels adds an extra layer of personal experience to her clinical expertise.

Angelique is a Speech Pathologist who is passionate about working with children. She works within the Bright Door clinics at Toowong and Fig Tree Pocket. Angelique values working to achieve goals that are functional and meaningful to her clients and their families. She has a particular interest in the areas of early intervention and Autism.  Angelique strives to empower all children’s access to communication. Angelique enjoys spending her time 4- wheel driving and going on camping holidays with her family and friends.

Ashton is a Speech Pathologist working at the Bright Door clinic and Language Disorder Australia’s School Support Services in Townsville. Ashton has always been passionate about working with children and helping them to build capacity for participation in their functional daily activities. She is experienced in assessing and providing interventions for a wide range of speech and language needs. Ashton enjoys working closely with other allied health and education professionals to adopt a holistic approach when supporting children to thrive in all environments. When working to build children’s communication skills, Ashton’s approach to therapy is client-centred, evidence-based, innovative and fun. In her spare time, Ashton enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading a good book, and walking her dog.

Bianca is a Speech Pathologist working at the Bright Door clinics in Toowong and Fig Tree Pocket. With a warm and empathetic approach Bianca is passionate about working with children to support them with the skills and strategies to allow them to flourish and fulfil their communication potential. Bianca’s approach to therapy integrates fun and engaging activities with client-centred and evidence-based interventions. This ensures the best possible outcomes for an improved quality of life for not only the clients but families as well. She has a strong interest in early intervention and enjoys working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Outside of work, you can find Bianca exploring new restaurants or cafés in Brisbane with her family and friends or relaxing outside beside the beach reading a good book!

Britney is a registered music therapist accredited by the Australian Music Therapy Association. She received her Masters of Music Therapy through University of Melbourne in 2021. She previously studied a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences at Griffith University, graduating in 2017. Britney works across Mancel College and the Bright Door clinic. She has extensive experience working with children and young people and has been teaching music for over 8 years. Britney is passionate about working from a person centred and strength-based approach to ensure the needs and goals are at the forefront of every session. She believes in neuro-affirming practice and endeavours to empower the young people she works with.

Caitlyn is a passionate speech language pathologist who considers it a privilege to help young people to reach their greatest potential. She is enthusiastic about working collaboratively with client families to ensure their communication needs are fully met throughout therapy planning and intervention. Caitlyn is a Brisbane-local, with previous experience working within the NDIS and private practice sector. She truly has a heart of service for her clients and is driven to equip them with the tools to thrive in all learning and social contexts. When she’s not working, you will find Caitlyn road-tripping with family and friends, cooking up a storm, or with her nose buried in a good book!

With a strong academic background and a passion for children’s development, Chloe has developed the skills necessary to assess and provide interventions for a wide range of physical, cognitive and emotional needs. Chloe’s approach to therapy is creative, engaging and child centred, using play and fun activities to help children build skills, confidence and independence. She is committed to ongoing learning and the use of evidence-based practices to guide her work. In Chloe’s spare time she enjoys, traveling, cooking, socialising with friends, and spending time with family.

She is passionate about working closely with clients and their families to support them throughout their therapeutic journey, and she strives to create an empowering and safe environment for her clients to achieve their goals and optimise their participation and communication. Emma endeavours to make speech and language therapy fun and dynamic for each child, supported by evidence-based, strengths-based, and neuroaffirmative practices. When not at work Emma enjoys learning French, going to the beach and hiking, as well as reading, painting, and spending time with friends and family.

In his spare time, James loves to spend time with family and friends, being active in his parish, travelling, cooking, exercising and playing football.

Kyla is a Speech Language Pathologist at the Bright Door clinic in Townsville. She enjoys working as part of the multidisciplinary team, helping children to work at their goals across a variety of areas. Kyla is keen to help families feel supported, celebrate the successes, and give them the skills to achieve both in and out of the clinic sessions. Outside of work, Kyla spends her time with family and friends, watching a good movie or taking a hike.

Natalie is an Occupational Therapist working at the Bright Doors Clinic in Townsville and is dedicated to helping children become independent and successful in their daily lives. With her background in Occupational Therapy, she is equipped with a range of skills and techniques designed to help children develop their fine and gross motor, cognitive and sensory skills. She also works to build capacity in key life skills such as self-care, social skills and problem solving. By using a client-centred approach, Natalie works closely with each child and their family to identify specific needs and goals, and then create a tailored treatment plan to help them achieve their goals. Natalie firmly believes that children learn best when they are supported and encouraged, and strives to create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters growth and development. Natalie is passionate in enabling each child to gain the confidence they need to succeed and to support their families to thrive.

She enjoys supporting children of all ages to build their capacity in various developmental areas, including emotional regulation, sensory processing, fine motor, gross motor and cognition. Samantha also has a keen interest in fostering social skills development, positive self-esteem, and well-being in children to enhance confidence to achieve their goals. She works closely with the families and multidisciplinary team around the child to ensure positive outcomes in all areas of the child’s life. Samantha participates in regular professional development and actively sources literature to keep up to date with best practice interventions. When not at work, Samantha enjoys spending time with her family and friends and supporting her husband’s fish tank hobby.

She has a dedication to supporting the vibrant performing arts scene in Brisbane.

Bec will accommodate for the individual needs of the family to ensure therapy is the right fit for them. Louise has a long career in the medical administration both in private practice and hospital setting including the Emergency Department. She is extremely passionate about client care and language and will go above and beyond for clients and their families. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her 3 dogs and dabbles in creative writing.
