Music Therapy

Music therapy is a research-based allied health profession in which music is used to assess, facilitate, treat and evaluate an individual in a range of areas including social, communication, cognitive, academic, physical, spiritual, emotional, behavioral, mental health, and daily living skills.

How our Music Therapists can help

Most children and young people find music enjoyable. A Registered Music Therapist will use the young person’s preferred music to engage them in therapy. Music Therapy can be utilised to support and motivate young people to express how they are feeling, move their bodies, communicate, and develop social skills.

Our Music Therapy Services

Music therapy utilizes the elements of music to engage children actively. A music therapy session may include:

  • Assessment
  • Intervention through singing, instrument playing, movement to music, action songs, improvisation
  • Relaxation, regulation and mindfulness.
  • A session will be structured to support attention, regulation, opportunities for choice and control whilst working on goals that have been identified by you and your child.
